Oracle Database Firewall protects databases by controlling the SQL queries

The new Oracle Database Firewall controls all database traffic and prevents attacks on Oracle and non-Oracle databases. Network-based security software monitors application behavior in real time and protects the database from SQL injection attacks and unauthorized access by enforcing “normal” database query behavior.

At the RSA Conference in San Francisco, Oracle has now introduced the Oracle Database Firewall. The Oracle database firewall prevents attacks on enterprise databases by monitoring application behavior in real time.

Using innovative technology for SQL grammar analysis, Oracle Database Firewall examines SQL statements sent to the database. On the basis of predefined guidelines, it determines which instructions may pass, be recorded or which are blocked and exchanged, and which ones must be alerted.

The firewall is easy to use in-line in the network for both blocking and monitoring as well as for out-of-band monitoring only. There is no need to change existing applications, the database infrastructure or the existing operating system of the target database.

” As a legal entity, the company was dissolved, says Philippe Laplane. But the brand and the technical team have been maintained. Since 2017, we have been directing Cloudwatt towards customers requiring the SecNumCloud (formerly Secure Cloud) label, a security label defined and awarded by Ansii, the national information systems security agency. This label goes further in terms of data protection requirements than the RGPD, the general data protection regulation. Cloudwatt is already a beautiful technical platform. Its vocation is to serve this market niche where Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and other Google are not present. ” Orange is one of the three actors who applied for the SecNumCloud label at Anssi alongside Oodrive and Vendôme Solutions. Laplane hopes to obtain it in the middle of 2018 after an audit to be conducted by Afnor during the first half of 2018.

IMPORTANT AXIS OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN

In its strategic plan “Essentials 2020” launched in 2015, Stéphane Richard, CEO of Orange, wants to increase by 10 points the share of digital services in the total turnover by 2020. Cloud computing is part of four drivers of this development alongside employee productivity tools, business process improvement services and cybersecurity.

“Increasing threats to databases make it necessary for businesses to look for new security solutions,” said Vipin Samar, Oracle’s vice president of database security. “The Oracle Database Firewall provides first-hand security to prevent internal and external attacks on databases. Easy-to-use and easy to manage helps reduce costs and protect the complexity of enterprise-wide data without having to make changes to existing applications and databases. ”

The Oracle Database Firewall can be used with Oracle Database 11g and previous versions as well as IBM DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows (versions 9.x), Microsoft SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008; Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) (versions 12.5.3 through 15) and Sybase SQL Anywhere V10.
